A contract packager needed 22 people to singulate and count truffles by hand. A first-of-its-kind six-lane CAM Singulator cut that to 4 people with the same output and freed 18 employees for work across the facility.

  • The Challenge

Our customer, a contract packager, was manually singulating and counting truffles using a Cremer system and hoppers supplied by CAM. The process required 22 people on the line to maintain the required production output.

  • What CAM Did

CAM developed a first-of-its-kind six-lane Singulator solution to automate the singulating and counting process.

The system was designed to maintain the customer’s existing production requirements while dramatically reducing the labour required to operate the line.

  • The Result

The number of people required to operate the line was reduced from 22 to just 4—while maintaining the same productivity.

For more than 14 years, the system has continued to produce the same cartons per minute, cases per shift and pallets per week.

The 18 employees freed from the line were redeployed to other areas of the facility, giving our customer additional labour capacity to support other SKUs and expand production throughout the business.
